Kaum hatte der New Yorker MIKE DOUGHTY Europa im Fruehling nach dem Genuss von Konopkes Currywuersten verlassen, nahm er ein neues Alben auf, war in Japan auf Tour, in den USA unterwegs und… [mehr]
mischte anschliessend “Sad Man Happy Man”, das nun bei uns als aufwaendiges Doppel-Album erscheinen wird, denn die Faszination seiner letzten Tour mit Scratch Livingston kommt auf der Buehne bestens zum tragen und so legen wir das bislang nicht veroeffentlichte Album “Half Smofe” (live recorded in Minneapolis) als Bonus bei. Das Album ist wieder sparsam reduziert, in Richtung seiner grossartigen ersten Solowerke. Einige mit diesem unverkennbaren Soul Coughin Touch mit Minimal Elektronik, feinste Songs und eine grosse Stimme. Die Tour ist fuer Februar geplant. Augen auf, Ohren auf, ein grossartiger und unterhaltsamer Abend ist garantiert.

After some hours of ”last minute” (or last hours) of fixing before leaving we finally got away about half an hour late from gothenburg. 18.30 on monday night we left the city with sight on Cologne! The reason we where a bit late was that we had to pick up some stuff from the music store and some merch that had arrived to the post office. I also actually went and bought a brand new and expensive Canon system camera for this very speical occassion! I mean the quality of the cheap cameras are terrible and I usually take pictures with my mobile phone. The camera on that one is actually good for a phone (6megapixels) and work for my own blog but not for more serious stuff.  Yes, we are very serious bloggers indeed!

I spent the last hour and a half trying to figure out how to get the lcd screen of the camera to be on all the time like a normal digital camera, so I can watch it when I take pics and not be forced to look into that small whole that the old ass cameras used to have. After a while I get pissed and call my sister who is very interested in photography and has the same typ of camera but a bit better. She explains to me, like the retard that I am that one of the reasons you buy this type of camera is actually to NOT look at the screen but actually look thru the whole. That`s apparently how ”real” photographers do it. I am in far over my head here but as it turns out if you watch the screen you can`t get correct colour perception bla bla get the natural depth and bla bla bla. I stopped listening to my sister just after understanding that I am stupid and just wasted an hour of my life trying to get the damn screen to work on a camera that it`s not meant to work on!

I will try to give you guys a good look behind the scenes of what happens with Dead by April, in the bus, at the venues, after the gigs and so on. You probably know how this stuff works by now right? It goes like this: We write a bunch of jibberish about our day and post photos (with our brand new camera) and hopefully you get the feeling that you where there, if you wheren`t of course. If you had a good excuse for not being at the gigs we forgive you, otherwise you shouldn´t actually even read the tourdiary. Shame on you! But at least you hopefully bought the mag since you are reading it right now. I very much doubt this is the type of literature that can be found as timepasser at your local hairdresser or dentist, but germany is on the other hand very different from sweden so who knows right? I might be wrong. This country has always fascinated me in it`s mixture between seriousity contra an extrem openmindedness and humor. Alot of ”good times” combined with classic values and a sometimes very stiff and rigid approach to things. I love coming to germany, compared to for example the UK you always get treated so much better by everyone around you here and the country is so beautiful with a lot of nature and great architecture in the cities.

Tuesday/Köln:

Woke up with just a few miles left to the venue, my first objective was to get a memory card for the camera we bought (remember?). Of course you didn`t get one with the camera, I really wished they would have told me that when I bought it at the store but enough with the camera. I found a memory card so it sorted itself smothly. We got in at the venue at 15.00 and loaded in the stuff, everybody was hungry as hell. We all ran up and dug in at the catering before setting up the stuff on stage. We met the guys from My passion an chatted a bit, seemed like cool dudes! We had kind of a long soundcheck, the room wasn`t really getting along with us and our soundguy Olle so we had to change things around alot before we where ok with the situation but it felt ok. Kind of a small venue but I love that! It reminds me of when we started out in sweden just really hungry to play and close to the crowds. I missed that alot in the past year when it`s been mostly sweden with bigger venues and festivals. I guess we have been very spoiled with the success we have had in sweden in the last year, playing headlining shows for 500-1000 people and every night but to me coming back to the small clubs is just a kick saying ”You know this shit, you did it in sweden and you can do it again!”.

After we soundchecked it was time for some interviews before, during and after our dinner. I was moshing down a Döner kebab while trying to speak my ”english” to a german guy trying to speak his ”english” to me. It always ends up cool though, you can understand people even without a common language! Sometimes it takes a bit longer and there are always some misunderstandings but that`s part of it. After the interview/dinner it was time for a meet and greet with the fans. They where shy as usual, noone really comes forward unless someone else does too but after a while it losened up. We went up to the dressing room to warm up and change for the gig, people where dropping in at the venue and My passion where going on stage. An hour later we are standing behind the stage and the intro is rolling. It`s the same thing wherever we are or however the day has been, when that intro goes on you focus and you get that stirr in your stomach saying ”now it`s time to show these people what you`ve got!”. The gig actually went great and we could literally touch the people in the front row, that`s how close they where! Weekdays are always a bit lamer than say a friday or saturday but I think they did a good job, many people sung with us and knew the lyrics and it`s always a rush to see people singing the songs and knowing the music. When you travel to a country where you haven`t had any shows before and the albums hasn`t even been released yet it`s even better!

I had german as a second language in school so I tried a couple of words. There`s not really much left in my memory but that certainly did the trick, to bad it was before the last song! It was great fun to be in germany for the first time, we have been longing to come here for a long time!

After the gig I went for a shower and then straight to a last interview of the day before it was time for the beerdrinking and hanging around with people part of the day. As it turned out I ended up in the dressing room with the guys from My Passion talking about food for at least  an hour (everbody was starving!). We pretty much passed thru every good food dish ever made and went all the way from great stakes, bbq, italian to asian food in all sorts. They all went to burger king after that, it was the only place open! I can imagine that a crappy burger wasn`t exaclty what they we craving for but I think it did the trick!

After that I just stayed there and hung out with those guys. They showed me our fetaure in this weeks kerrang that we did last time we where in the uk. I hadn`t even seen it and almost forgotten about it so I was stoked, we where even on the poster! Cool stuff! Before going to the bus and leaving we all got to drink some beers and hang out. It will be more of that these days! Right now I am sitting in the bus drinking the final beer while the other guys are watching the latest Lamb of God dvd. One of my top ten favourite bands ever and really cool guys, we`ve had the honor to meet them and hang out with them a couple of times. But enough of my japping, I am hitting the sack in a short while.

Wednesday: Munich

Today we woke up in munich and it was hot as hell outside, i had to crawl out of my bunk and to the fridge to get som cold water and it was really nice to get some water into the system after a warm night in the bus.

After that i saw Pontus carry some guitarr amps and som pillows and other heavy stuff outside the bus to build his own gym, i thought ”hmm thats a great idea to do some training”. On tour when you dont have anything else to do in the day time, smart thinking of pontus to build muscles with guitar amps and cymbal cases . Maybe that`s not something we usually do at home but what can you do when there is no gym anywhere around? So i started to do some classical push ups and then som biceps workout with the cymbal case and then push upps again and then pontus got into the bus and got his wheel out that you can train you stomach muscles with, i used it for like 10 minutes and after 3 houres i already felt that i was going to get seriuos muscle pain later on.

Our manager called us from sweden and told us that we had an interview live at a radio station that we had compleatly forgotten about, we also had to play and sing one song live acoustic, so me and pontus grabbed johans acoustic guitarr and started to practice on the song ”losing you” outside next to our fantastic home made gym. It felt really good and sounded good so we sang it like 6 times and then we had to start the soundcheck for the gig later on.

We started to carry all the ecuipment into the club (backstage Club) so Olle and our new tour manager/stage tech Paul stared to put it all together, fucking proffessionals! Ites a nice fealing to have pro dudes to wtork for you with the sound and all the technics on stage cause i am a total retard when it comes to that, i dont get anything about technical stuff at all! I just try to perform the best I can, I´ll let those guys worry about it!

18:15 in the evening me and pontus took a cab together with paul, he is german by the way and it`s so nice to to have a german dude working with the band in germany where no one is speaking english, without paul in a cab trying to find a radio station would be impossible! After 15 minutes in a cab we finally arrived  at the radio station, it was 10 minutes left to the interview started so me and pontus took the guitarr and found us an emphty room where we could rehears the song losing you for the acoustic live session and it fealt really good. We sat down in the radio room with the happy girl that was going to interview us and started to record the interview so it wasn`t a ”real” live interview. Moste of them (as you probably know) are recorded before they air and that is alway nice when you start to studder and say the wrong things! She will cut away all the mistakes that we did, and probably hers aw well I gues. I think that the interview went ok, and the live session went good aswell pontus did some nice harmonies when i was singing and it all fealt like it sounded good and that was a big relief.

Back at the club backstage again and 2 hours left to the gig.

We got som catering, really good catering by the way with som chocolate and vanilla cream as dessert JUMMY!!! After that i had a big cup of coffee and now it was time for our opening band ”My passion” to play, this was actually the first time i heard them ever and i was really suprised how good they were! Really cool mix of music styles with som rock’n roll and som techno mixed with a popish fealing into it.The drummer where singing and screaming and the singer was screaming and singing really good all the way though the gig, Great band!!

Thursday: Berlin

Woke up with a bit of a hangover. We got Captain Morgan and smirnoff yesterday and that never ends well. After getting forced up by the other guys for some sighseeing is crawled out of the bunk, put some clothes on and went with them to see Berlin. What a beautiful city! Lots of  great buildings, bridges, shops and cafèes to see. We walked thru the city and up towards Alexanderplatz. Our German tourmanager Paul said we had to try the Berlin dish ”Currywurst” wich is basicly what it sounds like: A hot dog with curry. Some of the guys didn`t really enjoy it but i thought it was great! Maybe not something you can eat every day but very good. We spent about an hour in the sun at Alexanderplatz just relaxing before heading to the venue ”Sage Club”. The busdriver had driven the bus there so we where just about ready to load in when we got there. The club was really cool! They had a pool and alot off different rooms there so we where getting stoked to play! After soundcheck we had some pizza before starting with the interviews and meet and greet stuff. We spent maybe half an hour chatting to the people before doing some interviews. The gig was kind of late compared to the other gigs, we didn`t have stage time until 23.30. We went down to change, have a couple of drinks and hang out with the My Passion guys. The gig was going to be filmed and live broadcasted on radio and that always makes you a bit nervous because you have a tendency to think about that when you play. That of course limits you from doing the usual headbanging and crazier stuff but I was determind not to let it get to me, I was going to do what I always do! We signed some stuff in the dressing room before the final warmup and after some problems with one of the wireless systems we could finally get on stage! It was way more people than I had expected, the biggest venue and easily the biggest crowd on this ”tour”!

The first couple of minutes I was kind of bothered by the two cameraguys being around on stage. I got afraid I might hit them with the guitar or run into them but then I though ”their problem not mine” so I just ignored them and they`d have to get out of my way! Haha

The gig felt great and the audience was awesome! We`ll see how it looks and sound when we get the video but for me it was a blast! Afterwards I wanted to celebrate but the eye infection that I have had the last couple of days was realy bad after the gig. I had to have my contact lenses in and the on top of that alot of sweat and hairwax in your eye when it`s already infected really didn`t help! It was really killing me! So I cleaned it and just went and gave it a rest in the bus, you only have to eyes and I knew I was gonna drink in hamburg so I just let the other guys have all the alcohol. Yesterday was the last gig so I had to be fit enough to play and almost more importantly drink and say goodbye to the My passion guys!

Friday: Hamburg

We we woke this morning and when I looked out of the window to find a big sexshop sign staring at me! We where at the famous Reperbahn in hamburg, that`s where the venue was located. Our busdriver comes in the bus and tells us that there`s breakfest in the park. I`m like ”what`What do you mean? Wich park?”. As it turn out he has been shopping and put up a breakfeast buffè for us in the park nearby! What a great guy, or as they say in Gothenburg ”en go gubbe!”. After that we started playing around at the playground in the park. You get really reastless when you stay in a bus so much and are almost never outside but always, maybe a couple of hours a day so when you have the time to get rid of some energy it`s always great! We spent about an hour playing on the swings and goofing around like little kids! After that Putte our merchguy was very curious about the sexshops and decided to check them out so all of us went along. It was great fun indeed, the guys behind the counters didn`t really enjoy that we saw their very serious sextoy and pornshop as something extremely funny but it was. So funny that we sent over the my passion guys to do the same! The place was really small and the dressingroom was even smaller actually! It wasn`t even 2×2M big and we where suppose to be to bands in there, no way! It worked out but we couldn`t be more than 3-4 people in the at the maximum. I actually thought the gig was going to suck to be honest, especially after a great Berlin gig. It`s always hard to top a good yesterday! Even though the place was small it was pretty cool actually! People where digging the stuff and we even got a mini version of the ”wall of death” going on in there. It´s greta with smaller gigs because you can be super relaxed and just focus on enjoying yourself. To me that is to mess with marcus on stage. In any way I can! He always gets distracted and fucks up! Haha

After the gig we had a small meet and greet before I took a shower (they didn`t have showers at the club in Berlin so I really needed one!) and went back to say goodbye to the guys in My passion.

It`s always sad to end when you tour with fun bands but I am sure that we will tour together again. We got along great and had lots of fun and they will come to sweden to party with us soon!

Cesena, ganz in der Nähe von Bologna, Italien. Der obere Schaft des europäischen Stiefels, das ist der Herkunftsort von AWAKEN DEMONS. Aber warum macht ein solches kleines Städtchen seit diesem Sommer musikalisch auf sich aufmerksam? Nun, zum einen liegt das daran, dass AWAKEN DEMONS ein neues Album namens “The Mirror” vorlegen. Zum anderen ist der Grund das sehr bekannte Label, welches diese jungen Italiener unter Vertrag nahm. Und hier geht der Name buchstäblich herunter wie italienisches Olivenöl: Trustkill. Ganz genau, dieses feine und qualitätsbewusste amerikanische Label, für einige Leute bereits als Kult-Label avancierend, zog aus, um eine neue Kapelle an Land zu ziehen. Und anstatt vor der eigenen Haustüre zu suchen, wo es doch Nachwuchsbands zuhauf im Land der unbegrenzten Möglichkeiten gibt, schaute man über den großen Teich, um in Europa fündig zu werden.

Aber was veranlasst ein Label, die Flügel so weit auszustrecken? Die Band hat einen Hardcore-Bolliden an Album in Stein gemeißelt, der in neun Songs und nur knapp 30 Minuten deutlich unter Beweis stellt, warum man im Trustkill-Stall nun zu Recht heimisch ist. Nach ihrem Debütalbum „From Heaven To Hell“, welches noch etwas mehr Old School Hardcore mit großem Hang zu Gang-Shouts bot, wurden diese ein wenig zurückgeschraubt und ein bisschen mehr Härte und Moshparts eingebunden. Auch diese Entwicklung steht den jungen Herren aus Italien sehr gut zu Gesicht und wummert ordentlich fett aus den Boxen. Zur Verstärkung holten sich die Jungs für ihr Zweitwerk auch noch prominente Unterstützung ins Boot, als da wären Vincent Bennet von The Acacia Strain, Karl Buechner von keinen Geringeren als Earth Crisis und Paul Swimm (Ex-Meltdown). Und nun, bevor sie demnächst zur Europa-Tour aufbrechen, geben sie sich noch mal die Ehre, und so stand die Band in der Pflicht, einige brennende Fragen zu beantworten rund um AWAKEN DEMONS und natürlich zu ihrem neuen Kracher “The Mirror”.

AWAKEN DEMONS: Die eigentliche Intention, eine Band zu gründen, war vordergründig der Spaß, als jedoch Trustkill anklopften und wir bei ihnen unterschrieben, haben wir gemerkt, dass für uns ein Traum in Erfüllung ging.

Wie habt ihr euch für diesen Sound entschieden? Gab es schon immer diese Vorliebe für den Hardcore-Sound?
Wir mochten schon immer den Hardcore/Metalcore-Sound. Besonders Bands wie The Acacia Strain hatten es uns angetan. Aber wir wollten auch schnell unseren eigenen Sound finden. Ich kann zum Beispiel sagen, dass unsere neue Scheibe noch besser werden wird!

Und wie fühlt es sich jetzt an ein Teil der Trustkill-Familie zu sein?
Wir sind so was von stolz, das kann man gar nicht beschreiben, denn hey, wer kennt Trustkill nicht?!

Wie ist Josh (Trustkill) auf euch aufmerksam geworden, und wie trat er mit euch in Verbindung?
Ungewöhnlich skurril, aber im Grunde sehr einfach. Ich arbeite für eine Designfirma (www.myspace.com/designyourfate24), und darüber habe ich mit Josh an einigen Designs gearbeitet. Und da dachte ich, ich zeige ihm mal unser Demo. Und es hat ihm gefallen. Das ist die ganze Story. Wie gesagt, sehr simpel.

Ihr wart letztes Jahr auch in den USA auf Tour. Was habt ihr dort für Erfahrungen gemacht?
Also ganz ehrlich, das war ganz schön schwierig. Im Gegensatz zu Europa gibt es dort keinerlei Promoter oder jemanden, der dir unter die Arme greift. Du musst komplett für dich selbst sorgen und zusehen, wie du vor Ort zurecht kommst. Das war schon hart, die ganze Sache auf eigene Faust durchzuziehen, aber auch eine gute Erfahrung. Leider musste unsere aktuelle Tour, die mit It Dies Today anstand, gecancelt werden. Na ja, vielleicht nächstes Jahr!

Wie verhält es sich bei euch mit den Lyrics? Ist da die gesamte Band involviert? Wenn man sich die Songs so anschaut, seid ihr ja schon sehr negativ.
Die Lyrics verfassen wir komplett als Bandeinheit. Es sind zum Großteil persönliche Ansichten. Eigentlich alles in allem Themen, mit denen jedermann etwas anfangen und seine eigene Interpretationen gestalten kann. Aber wir sind schon ziemlich angenervt von der gesamten Lage: Zu viele Lügen und Betrügereien, und das manchmal sogar schon unter den eigenen Freunden. Da ist der Titel “The Mirror” schon sehr passend gewählt. Und dazu die Musik – das ist wie ein Schlag ins Gesicht. Schnell und brutal.

Würdet ihr etwas ändern, wenn ihr das Ganze noch einmal aufnehmen könntet?
Im Grunde genommen, würden wir “The Mirror” so belassen, vielleicht ein, zwei Kleinigkeiten abändern. Allerdings würden wir beim Vorgänger „From Heaven To Hell“ einige Sachen ändern. Vor allem den Sound und definitiv mehr Härte und Mosh-Parts einbauen!

Wo wir schon bei den Aufnahmen sind, wie kam es zu den Gästen? Habt ihr sie direkt gefragt, oder kanntet ihr euch schon?
Vincent haben wir in Italien getroffen. Er ist hier rübergekommen, weil er schon ein Fan vom Vorgängeralbum war. Das hat uns natürlich sehr gefreut. Mit Paul war es einfacher, da wir schon länger befreundet waren, mussten da keine großen Kontakte hergestellt werden. Und über Paul kam auch der Kontakt zu Karl Buechner zustande. Paul fragte ihn, da er ihn schon länger kannte, und es war kein Problem für ihn, zu uns zu kommen. Nachdem wir völlig ausgeflippt sind, weil wir es kaum fassen konnten, sind wir natürlich richtig stolz auf diese Gästeliste.

Wie denkt ihr über die Entwicklung von MySpace im Generellen? Seht ihr die Plattform eher als Vor- oder Nachteil? Seit MySpace kann man ja mittlerweile auch bekannt werden und Plattendeals bekommen, ohne jemals live gespielt zu haben?
Im Generellen ist MySpace hervorragend, um sich und seine Band zu promoten. Aber natürlich ist das mitunter auch ein Nachteil, da man sich ja bekanntlich tolle Programme für teilweise unter 30 Euro besorgen kann, womit man die Hits auf den Seiten künstlich faken kann. Somit können Bands locker die Zugriffsrate manipulieren und einen Plattenvertrag ohne große Arbeit ergattern. Das ist natürlich Bullshit, besonders wenn man sieht, dass sich solche Bands einen Dreck um die Musik kümmern und nach zwei Jahren meist schon wieder vom Erdboden verschwunden sind.

Was macht euch noch so richtig wütend?
Zum einen auf jeden Fall Lügen, zum anderen Enttäuschungen!

Kommen wir zu einem ganz anderen Thema: Was sind eure Lieblingsfilme? Welche Art von Filmen mögt ihr am liebsten? Und wenn ihr die Möglichkeit hättet, einen Soundtrack zu schreiben oder einen Beitrag zu einem Soundtrack beizusteuern, was wäre da euer Favorit?
Also wir lieben Horror, Thriller und Action-Filme. Da wären wir wirklich überaus glücklich, wenn wir zu einem Vampir- oder Zombie-Film etwas beisteuern könnten. Ein Song für „Underworld“ oder „Resident Evil“ wäre echt ein Kracher. Wir würden geradezu ausflippen!

Wo wir vorhin schon bei Gastmusikern waren, mit wem könntet ihr euch denn bei eurem nächsten Album eine Kollaboration vorstellen? Oder besser noch, wen würdet ihr euch wünschen, um Gastparts oder eventuell ein Duett aufzunehmen?

Das wäre der absolute Hammer, wenn da etwas klappen könnte. Oder aber auch Hayley William von Paramore. Das wäre auch fabelhaft, wenn da eine Kooperation zustande käme. Das wäre der passende Kontrast zu unserem heavy Sound. Man kann sich jetzt schon vorstellen was das für ein Hammer-Song werden würde, mit solch einem großartigen Gast. Ja, da kommt man ins Schwärmen!

Wie denkt ihr über die Entwicklung der illegalen Downloads und den Austausch von Musik via Internet? Einige Zungen behaupten ja, dass es bald nur noch digitale Veröffentlichungen geben soll. Keinerlei Special Editions, keine Haptik….”
Ganz ehrlich: Wer lädt heutzutage nicht illegal herunter? Es ist dermaßen einfach, sich die Musik im Internet zu beschaffen, die man haben möchte. Doch natürlich ist es auch für uns von Nachteil, wenn wir weniger verdienen, weil keine Alben mehr gekauft werden beziehungsweise weit weniger, als wenn es die Tauschbörsen oder ähnliche Quellen nicht geben würde. Wahrscheinlich hätten wir jetzt auch schon doppelt so viel CDs verkauft…

Glaubt ihr an Glücksbringer oder Objekte, die zum Glück verhelfen? Habt ihr eventuell solcherlei Gegenstände?
Nein. Ganz und gar nicht. Es ist doch alles nur in den Gedanken verankert, wenn du glaubst, dass dir ein Gegenstand Glück bringen könnte.

Worüber sollten eurer Meinung nach keine Scherze gemacht werden?
Wenn Leute über die Tragödien anderer lachen, kommt einem schon manchmal das Kotzen.

Was meint ihr, ist der Mensch von Natur aus eher böse oder gut?
Also das kann man direkt mit einer Scheibe beantworten: Integritys „Humanity Is The Devil“. Das sagt eigentlich alles.

Und was ist eurer Meinung nach die größte Ironie des Lebens?
Das ist einfach. Das Leben selbst ist die größte Ironie daran.

Habt ihr einen wirklich großen Lieblingssong? Eventuell den besten Song, der jemals geschrieben wurde?
Das ist schwer zu beantworten. Es gibt so viele sehr gute Songs. Da ist es schwierig, nur einen einzigen auszuwählen. Aber einer davon könnte ‘Enjoy The Silence’ von Depeche Mode sein.

Wenn ihr 30 Sekunden Zeit hättet, der ganzen Welt etwas zu sagen, was würde das sein?
Wir würden dazu auffordern, sich nicht mehr gegenseitig zu belügen und zu hassen. Außerdem sollte das Töten im Namen der Religion oder für Geld enden. Aber wahrscheinlich ist das eh schon zu spät, wenn das alle irgendwann von allein bemerken.

Wenn ihr in eine Comic-Figur oder einen Comic-Charakter schlüpfen könntet, welcher wäre das?
Das wäre Bugs Bunny, der ist nämlich immer gut drauf und immer glücklich!

Tausend mal zitiert, immer noch aktuell und wahrscheinlich noch nie zutreffender, als in diesen Tagen. Die Zeiten ändern sich, alles ist im Fluss und wahrscheinlich in keinem Bereich ist dieser Umstand messbarer, als es im Print-Markt der Fall ist. Wo das thematisch ähnlich gelagerte amerikanische Revolver-Mag gezwungenermaßen auf einen zwei-monatlichen Rhythmus umstellt, war dies schon immer das von uns favorisierte Erscheinungs-Modell. Zwar konnten auch wir aufgrund der Marktbedingungen dieses Ziel nicht immer einhalten, dennoch befinden wir uns, im Gegensatz zum strauchelnden Markt, auf einem stabilen Weg. Sukzessive und behutsam werden wir unser STARDUST um verschiedene Rubriken aufstocken, einige Themen mal von einer anderen Seite angehen und versuchen Euch, den treuen Lesern, eine spannende Lektüre zu bieten. Lasst uns gerne wissen, worüber Ihr Euch freuen würdet und was ihr am STARDUST vermisst. Aufmunternde Worte werden aber genau so gerne entgegengenommen. Als Einstimmung auf die Dinge, die da kommen werden, wird als besonderes Schmankerl der Nummer 18, in einer Teilauflage, eine exklusive CD in Zusammenarbeit mit Midsummer Records beiliegen, die dem deutschen und internationalen Nachwuchs eine Plattform bieten soll.

Michael Päben & die STARDUST-Rentiere

AFI sind zurück. Seit nunmehr 18 Jahren macht das Quartett aus Ukiah / Californien um Sänger Davey Havok zusammen Musik. Der internationale Durchbruch gelang ihnen 2006 mit dem Album „decemberunderground“ und der Single „Miss Murder, seit dem 25.09.2009 steht nun ihr mittlerweile achtes Studioalbum „Crash Love“ in den Plattenläden. Zwei Jahre haben AFI daran gearbeitet. Produziert wurde mit Joe McGrath and Jacknife Lee (u.a. Alkaline Trio, Morrissey). Songs wie “Medicate”, “Veronica Sawyer Smokes”, “End Transmission” oder “Beautiful Thieves” zeigen AFI in Topform und lassen Sänger Davey Havok folgende extrem euphorische Töne zum neuen Album anstimmen: “Honestly I’ve never been more proud of an AFI record. We are thrilled to hear it come to life”.

Nach einem Auftritt in Berlin im August dieses Jahres kommen AFI 2010 zurück nach Deutschland: am 14. April 2010 spielen sie in der Großen Freiheit 36 in Hamburg.

Das kleine, aber feine Dortmunder Plattenlabel (hier trifft die Begrifflichkeit tatsächlich noch zu!) Ass-Card Records feiert sein 11-jähriges Bestehen!

Das Label, entstanden aus einem Fanzine, veröffentlichte im Oktober 1998 erstmals eine 7inch einer befreundeten Band und kann heute, im Jahr 2009 auf diverse Veröffentlichungen kleinerer und größerer Bands aus der internationalen Punk- und Hardcore-Szene zurückblicken. Besonderer Wert wird auf Qualität statt Quantität gelegt und zu jeder Band ist eine freundschaftliche Beziehung Grundlage für eine Zusammenarbeit. Neben den üblichen Veröffentlichungen von CDs und Downloads, bestimmen aufwendige Vinyl-Releases einen Großteil des Label-Kataloges.

Am Freitag, den 27. November feiert ASS-CARD RECORDS sein 11-jähriges Bestehen im Dortmunder FZW mit folgendem Line-Up:

11 Jahre Ass-Card Records und 11 Jahre ist es ungefähr her als wir HWM das erste Mal live gesehen haben und direkt von deren Live-Präsenz überwältigt waren. Leider keine Band aus unserem Roster, aber Freunde des Hauses. Als klar wurde, dass HWM dieses Jahr für ein paar Dates nach Europe kommen und sich dies mit unserem Festivaltermin überschneidet, sagte die Band sofort zu unser Festival zu headlinen um mit uns und den anderen Bands unser Jubiläum zu feiern. Wie hätten wir dazu nein sagen können?

A WILHELM SCREAM [New Bedford/USA]

Die unermüdlich tourenden A Wilhelm Scream aus New Bedford/USA, sind eine fantastische Liveband, die seit Jahren auf den Bühnen dieser Welt zu Hause ist. USA, Kanada, Australien, Japan und Europa – überall wussten sie in der Vergangenheit zu begeistern, ob als Supportband oder auf ihren unzähligen Headlinertouren. Nuno Pereiras markante Stimme und die absolute Kontrolle der Intrumente aller Bandmitglieder machen diese Band zu einem Liveerlebnis erster Klasse, essentiell für alle, die auf “intelligenten” Hardcore ohne Peinlichkeiten stehen. Als Vergleich sind Propagandhi auf allen Ebenen die passende Referenz.

STRIKE ANYWHERE [Richmond/USA]

Jeder von uns hat Platten von Strike Anywhere in seiner Sammlung. Sie haben mit fast allen anderen Bands auf unserem Festival schon einmal gespielt oder sogar getourt. Strike Anywhere spielen sehr guten und zeitlosen Hardcore, sind alles nette Typen und touren auch zufällig zeitgleich mit unserem Festival. Für uns genügend Gründe sie einzuladen, obwohl sie auch nicht in unserem Roster sind.

TRIBUTE TO NOTHING [Worcester/UK]

Die seit mehr als 13 Jahren existierenden Tribute To Nothing, bestehend aus den drei Turner-Brüdern und dem quasi auch schon Familienmitglied Chris and der zweiten Gitarre gehören zweifelsohne zu Europas Post-Hardcore-Spitze.

Ihr eigenständiger, hymnischer und innovativer Rock, gepaart mit rauem, melancholischem Punk hat sich weit genug entwickelt, um eigene Maßstäbe zu setzen. Dass sie darüber hinaus auch eine hervorragende Liveband sind, haben sie in den letzten Jahren, während ihrer unzähligen Touren (u.a. mit Boysetsfire, Hot Water Music, etc.) durch ganz Europa immer wieder unter Beweis gestellt. Definitiv einer der umtriebigsten Livebands der letzten Jahre!

RED TAPE PARADE [Regensburg/DE]

Die fünf Jungs aus Regensburg und Umgebung gehören seit Jahren zu den umtriebigsten deutschen Punk/Hardcore Bands. Sowohl musikalisch als auch inhaltilich stehen Red Tape Parade in der Tradition von Good Riddance, Farside, By The Grace Of God und Propagandhi. Am besten umschreiben lassen sie sich mit einem Zitat aus ihrem Bandinfo: „We are a pro-gay, pro-choice, anti-organized religion and anti-racist punk band. So please find someone else to open up for your christian ‘hardcore’ bands, OK?” Auf ihren zahlreichen Touren, u.a. mit The Casting Out und Shook Ones haben sie bereits genug Erfahrungen auf Europas Punk- und Hardcorebühnen gesammelt.

THE ESCAPE ARTIST [Dortmund-Düsseldorf/DE]

Neuer Name, alte Hasen. Auch nicht erst seit gestern ist die Besetzung von The Escape Artist am Start, denn alleine drei Fünftel der Band hat bereits erfolgreich bei My Favorite Chord zusammen gespielt. Frisch verstärkt, bleiben sie ihrer Liebe zu melodiösem und treibenden Punkrock treu, wobei sie der zweiten Hälfte des Wortes eine immer größere Bedeutung beimessen, so dass Vergleiche zu Face To Face oder Samiam nicht aus der Luft gegriffen sind. Bei Supportshows für The Gaslight Anthem, The Loved Ones und The Casting Out bewiesen sie, dass von ihnen in Zukunft noch einiges zu erwarten ist.

Es gibt keinen Anlass für Spekulationen oder Gerüchte. Wir sind weiterhin alle miteinander befreundet und es gab keine persönlichen Gründe für diese Entscheidung. Wir teilen weiterhin die Leidenschaft zur Musik, sind noch alle aktiv in anderen Bands und/oder arbeiten bereits an neuen Projekten und Herausforderungen, denen wir mit Spannung entgegensehen. Ebenso vertreten wir die Meinung, dass wir mit ‘Disciples Of Doom’ unser bisher ehrlichstes und musikalisch niveauvollstes Album geschrieben haben, wo genau alle unsere künftigen musikalischen Aktionen anknüpfen sollen. Haltet also die Augen und Ohren offen!

Wir möchten uns auch bei dieser Gelegenheit bei allen Fans und Unterstützern bedanken, ihr habt uns die Erfahrungen der letzten Jahre erst möglich gemacht. Wir hatten eine unbeschreibliche Zeit und möchten nur wenige dieser Momente missen. Danke für alles!

Zudem werden wir ab nächster Woche und bis Ende des Jahres noch ausgewählte Shows in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz spielen, bevor es gegen Anfang 2010 eine letzte kleine Abschiedstour durch die größeren deutschen Städte, abgerundet mit einer fetten Show in unserer Heimatstadt Münster geben wird.
